I. BACKGROUND FOR A ZERO COST INFORMAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION MODEL

Environment at large is the thin skin of our only home, the Earth, which supports life and its endeavors. Comm
Environmental issues are basically social issues such as untouchability, illiteracy, child and women exploitation, and bonded labor. Any environmental degradation affects adversely poorest of the poor and people with lowering buying capability the most.
Ecological illiteracy is independent of the urban living or formal education. Three education approaches elucidates the differences:Table-01. In a developing country like India everyone seems to be more interested to use the environment for their vested ends more than protecting environment as such.
The development of a better future healthy environment in any habitat is possible only when the younger generation is in a position to appreciate the ecological and environmental aspects of such an environment.
The existing facilities and conditions in the academic institutions can be efficiently used for ecological and environmental studies by the students in all the secondary schools and colleges in towns and cities.
The nature/science clubs of the schools and colleges in association with professionals, teachers and community can work for the ecological awareness and data generation projects in the community environment.
